Teaching you how to use your Email better and reduce Email Junk and Scammers getting into your Mailbox

No one wants to have rubbish email getting into your inbox but unfortunately, it does happen. But, there are some things you can do to reduce the volume of crappy emails that get into your inbox. And in this video, I show you what I do to stop these emails from getting into my inbox, in the future.

WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR – TIPS & ADVICE

Listed below are some of the key things you need to look out for when reading and investigating these emails. But make sure you watch the video as there is much more to learn on there.

SCAM & FRAUDSTER EMAILS – (Best added to the Junk)

(What to look out for…)

1. It may look like it is sent from a friend or contact
2. Avoid clicking on any links whatsoever until you have investigated the email.
3. Investigate the email using my tips at the end of the video
4. Use common sense, 5. Never send money via an email request
6. These emails can link you to a website that looks professional and legitimate, but bear in mind they could have copied/cloned the site. It’s common for scammers to replicate banking sites, the post office etc

COLD EMAILING – (Similar to Cold Calling)

These people try to sell you a service mainly through advertising or marketing, even web design. So, business owners, you must be careful! The majority of these emails are dodgy. Some might not be.

(What to look out for…)

1. They don’t have a website
2. They contact you via a Gmail address
3. No contact telephone number
4. No reviews or reputation
5. No business address Simply an email telling you how they can get you more leads, enquiries, and traffic and in general make your website so much better than it already is

Tell me, why would you let anyone with the above anywhere near your website? Never mind sending them money to do work. There is a good chance you never see them again or worse they go in and wreck your website. And take your money. It can happen, it has happened! Some people may be legitimate but with poor communication skills or with little to no branding, online presence or reputation to be seen.

Whilst I’m not a fan of the ‘cold emailing’ approach it doesn’t always mean the person is a scammer, sometimes it’s just how they sell their service. Some will be scammers and fraudsters. A small majority can be offering a genuine service BUT with an awful first impression! Use common sense and stay safe.

HOW TO REDUCE JUNK & SCAM EMAILS

1. Ask your provider to increase the junk filter
2. Use email apps and software like Outlook, Mac Mail, Windows Mail, Linux Mail, and Thunderbird Mail as they give you additional control and options to reduce the mail getting into your mailbox
3. Add nuisance emails to the Junk folder
4. Block the email sender
5. Always investigate the email sender before clicking links etc
6. Do NOT reply to these emails. Unless you can verify it is legitimate and genuine

INVESTIGATE THE EMAIL

Use the tips and advice near the end of the video to help you investigate the origins of the emails, who is the sender, links/urls etc.

  1. Investigate the email address
  2. Check out the URLs before clicking on them
  3. Investigate the Person or Company’s legitimacy
  4. Use online search engines and websites to find what you need to know (use phases as seen in the video)

USE COMMON SENSE

Finally, use common sense when opening emails from people you don’t know and of course be careful of emails from people you do know as the email could be masking itself as a friend or contact when really it is a dodgy link.
