SME News - Scottish Enterprise Awards: Best Web Design & SEO Agency 2024 & 2026

Are you a business owner who is trying to be too perfect?

Not getting shit done won’t help you get new customers, enquiries or leads! You got to have the ‘GSD’ attitude. That’s ‘Get Shit Done!’

Perfectionism is actually a case of having a frail ego. So take my advice, drop the ego and apply the GSD attitude.

Trying to be too perfect on each and everything you do might actually be stalling your progress.

I’ve been in design and marketing since 2004 and I’ve come to realise that not getting material or content prepared for your website or even worse getting it done but going over it with a fine-tooth comb repeatedly will be hurting your progress online and the same applies to offline.

Nowadays it’s important that your website gets fresh material on a regular basis and stopping that from happening isn’t a good idea. My SEO clients know that getting shit done is more important than having it word perfect and that’s why we just get it done.

What The University of Cambridge study found

I first saw this via the email groups I was in back in 2003, that was like our Facebook back then. That’s a long time ago now and actually when I started designing and working in advertising and marketing. Several studies were done but this one found that…

Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn’t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae.

Being the perfectionist

I’m a perfectionist and everyone who works with me or is a friend of mine will vouch for the fact that this was me all over with everything I put my hands on or put my mind to.

However, I have learned to simmer down and try to stop being a perfectionist. The reasons are simple and exactly related to what I’m typing about in this blog – just start writing, get it done.

Don’t stall and don’t panic about having it absolute word perfect, I have two clients who are dyslexic and I’ve helped them get to a position where they can get shit done. You can use tools like Grammarly to help with your spelling and grammar. It’s a Free tool and can be used on all devices from smartphone to computer. Try Grammarly out for FREE!

Here is a video to help you understand what Grammarly is all about…

Don’t sit on your content, overthinking it won’t produce results

I remember being taught at school and college that people will not take you seriously if you have a spelling mistake or if your grammar is not perfect. That might be the case for some people but I reckon you’ll find that most normal folk just want to get a quote from the local joiner, plumber or web designer and they’re not really caring if there is a small typo on the page.

Remember what you have read in this blog, it’s about getting it done. It’s better to supply your web designer or marketing guru with the content rather than sit on it. Sitting on it is as good as an ashtray on a motorbike!

Empty pages don’t rank on search engines

An empty page on your website or blog is not going to rank on Google or attract any traffic via the search engines because there is nothing on it! If it’s blank, it is blank

It’s the same as a car… if you don’t have fuel in your car you will not be able to drive it anywhere, right?

But you do stand a chance of being ranked if there is content on there and if you have a good SEO who can apply their strategies, tactics, formatting and design to help you climb the rankings onto Page One of Google.

Hopefully, this very famous quote, phrase, sentence or saying (whatever you wish to call it) jumps out at you and you understand the core message from this blog today and that is to ‘just get it done’.

Imperfect action beats perfect inaction every time – President Harry S Truman

If this saying is good enough for the 33rd U.S. President of the United States of America, I reckon that it’s good enough for me and for you too.

Today is the day, get your finger out!

Don’t put off what you can do today until tomorrow. Sit down make now and make a list of things to do and start working on it.

And use tools like Grammarly and Google search to get shit done, the right shit done. Taking action is the best advice I can give you today.

If you get stuck and need help reach out to me. I’m here to help, advise and show you how to create good content using proven and successful formats and strategies.

BTW & finally…

I have no doubt that if you look closely enough you’ll find a typo or even bad grammar. However, I’m no longer in a place where I worry about that. I’ve found that since I ditched that way of think and I’m now just writing until my heart is content, I get shit done. And my passive income sites and daily business is doing better than they’ve ever done. To the future, keep typing and keep growing!

Free yourself from the perfectionist and GDS – ‘get shit done‘.

Update…

It’s now several months since I wrote this blog and I’ve found a guy call Rob Dial (The Mindset Mentor) is an American entrepreneur, mindset and mindfulness coach. He has over 3 million followers and is very successful in what he does.

I was very pleased to hear that the message I put out via this blog had also been covered in a very similar way.

Listen to more of his podcasts and hear what he has to say via his Podcast.
