2. IMAP vs POP3: Which Email Protocol is Best for You?
Choosing between IMAP and POP3 depends on your email usage. Here’s a comparison to help you decide:
IMAP (Recommended)
- Stores emails on the server
- Syncs across all your devices
- Ideal if you use multiple devices (laptop, phone, tablet)
POP3
- Downloads emails to your device
- Emails may be deleted from the server after download
- Best if you need to save server storage space
If you’re unsure, IMAP is the safest option for most users due to its flexibility and ability to sync across devices.

Having trouble with Stackmail? Here are solutions to common problems:
SSL or Certificate Errors:
Use fallback IMAP port 143 or SMTP port 25 without SSL.
Authentication Errors:
Ensure “My outgoing server requires authentication” is enabled in your email client settings.
Unable to Send Emails:
Switch SMTP port from 465 to 587 (TLS), as some networks block port 465.
Password Errors:
Double-check your email address and password. If you’re unsure, reset via your hosting control panel.
Emails Not Syncing:
If using POP3, switch to IMAP for proper synchronisation across devices.

A. DKIM Email Authentication
